Flower to the People
In a sea of similarly named and equally-eye-catching dispensaries, it’s imperative to stand out amongst the crowd. You need to announce your presence to the curious cannabis consumer, looking for an exclusive, unique, quality, one-of-a-kind experience, that they’ll not only enjoy, but will brag about to their friends for days after.
That sort of excitement is what every single dispensary is hoping to attain with their business model, and subsequent design. And that’s precisely what Dispensary 33 was able to do with its nightclub-like namesake and subtly modern approach to their overall aesthetic.
I mean, these are cannabis clubs, at the end of the day. And when you drive past and see people lined up around the corner waiting to get in, you can’t help but wonder if that’s a dispensary, or some hot, new disco that the kids are clamoring to.
Okay, so maybe that’s a bit of exaggeration, but the fact remains that their catchy name is what initially caught my attention. And I don’t think I’m the only one who’s fallen under their stylish spell, as this is quickly becoming one of the most popular dispensaries in all of Chicago.
Which is probably a direct result of the positive “word-of-mouth” this place has gotten in the local cannabis community as of late. It’s crazy to think about, but the marijuana industry, potentially more than any other of its kind, relies so much on positive customer reviews and experiences, that even the littlest mishap or victory could result in a drastic change in business.
Word travels super fast in this industry, good or bad, so it’s important to always aim for excellence. And, in my opinion, it seems like Dispensary 33 has no problem hitting that target on a daily basis, but that’s just from an outsider’s standpoint. I’d obviously have to hit them up, in order to gauge their true value, which is precisely what I did.
Also, it’s worth pointing out that this place caters to both the medicinal and recreational crowds.
Which, even though you may assume is the case with every establishment of this nature, you’d be sorely mistaken. Illinois has laws in place that prioritizes the needs and wants of medical marijuana patients above those who are only looking for adult-use cannabis. Which, to be fair, is super understandable.
With that in mind, dispensaries are having to make sure they stay within those legal guidelines, and always have enough for their medical patients. But, some establishments have decided to forgo their adult-use efforts altogether, until they can guarantee that they’ll have enough cannabis for everyone. Dispensary 33, however, is ready to take on anyone looking for some quality cannabis products.
Flower To The People Dispensary
Located on a busy corner, Dispensary 33 doesn’t need to do much to let the people of the neighborhood know what they’re all about. A simple, green polygonal “33” rests atop this storefront’s entrance, as their namesake modestly announces its presence on the adjacent black overhangs that cover their equally-covered windows.
The sleek design choices only get better from there, as you step inside to see a sincerely striking wooden front desk, adorned with a super helpful staff member. They help sign you into their system, be it for recreational or medicinal purposes. Behind them, is a breathtaking “33” artistically portrayed on the wall. The vibes are nothing but calming, as you await your turn to get ushered back into their showroom.
There, you are met with equally-tranquil vibes. Gorgeous hardwood floors serve as the foundation for the litany of glass display cases, each of which holding a specific category of their selection. There’s a few more pieces of modern art strewn across their walls in a mural-esque style, making the entire experience a truly cool endeavor.
Per the usual, this place has different menus for recreational and medicinal customers, and the two vary greatly – but only in one category: flowers.
For recreational customers, they are only allowed to purchase one strain of flower. However, the medicinal crowd gets to choose from six. That, to me, is upsetting. Personally, I have a medical card, however, I can only imagine how frustrating that must be to someone who prefers the floral form of cannabis, but can’t partake in their other options because they lack the proper paperwork.
They go out of their way to visit this shop, only to be told there’s one strain to pick from, while a whole slew of strains are just sitting in the back. I understand why they need to be reserved for the med-only crowd, but that level of difference in flower selection is a bit appalling to be, if I’m being honest.
Apart from that, they offer a decent array of vape pens, concentrates, and edibles for both customer bases. So, I’m confident that even the pickiest stoner will be able to find something to their liking at this unique establishment.
This is where a place can really “make or break” itself. And, sadly, after gazing upon these sky-high price points, I’m afraid that this is where Dispensary 33 broke. And, in doing so, it kind of broke my heart.
For an eighth of bud, they were asking for $80. They were also asking for $83 for a half-gram of bubble hash. A half-gram! Are these people insane?!
Are they not aware how competitive these cannabis clubs can be with their far more affordable price points? Apparently not, because these obnoxious prices continued onward throughout the rest of their menu.
It was shocking, to say the very least, and it definitely didn’t leave the best taste in my mouth, as I felt obligated to find something that I could afford, which became a task in itself.
Well, I definitely didn’t expect to say this, but I think you can skip Dispensary 33.
I mean, if you live nearby, and are curious to check it out, by all means, go for it. But, don’t be fooled by their catchy interior design. Yes, everything about this place seems clean, modern, and professional, and their staff is super knowledgeable and helpful, but these prices are far too high for the average cannabis consumer on a budget, in my opinion.
That said, if you have some extra dough that you don’t mind forking over for some top-notch bud, then you should definitely hit up Dispensary 33, but I know there are way more affordable options in the area. So, at the end of the day, it all depends on your personal preferences and “bud budget.”
