It is absolutely no secret that food and cannabis go hand-in-hand. Not only does this amazing herb entice your taste buds, but it awakens an insatiable hunger deep within that must be dealt with. The best part about marijuana, in my humble opinion, is how it also makes food taste better! The indescribable way each bite outshines the last is truly remarkable.

While you could take the average route with fast food, or some subpar microwavable meal, I think it’s “high time” you treated yourself a little bit. You work hard, you deserve it. This is why I’ve gone ahead and compiled a list of the “Top 10” places to eat after lighting up in Illinois.

Fight Off Your Munchies At These Top 10 Illinois Restaurants

And, just so we’re clear, this list may be numbered, but it is in no way indicative of one place being more superior than another. This is just a collection of the best eateries out there, and, as appetites change from session to session, you should see this list merely as a culinary guide when you’re high, hungry, and ready to chow down.

Dispensaries in Illinois

10. Smoque BBQ

Address: 3800 N. Pulaski Road, Chicago, IL 60641

What an appropriately named establishment to kick off this list of restaurants. This place has the best brisket and ribs in the tri-state area. And their pulled pork is out-of-this-world delicious. I can’t think of a better plate of food to get post-session than one chock full of high-quality barbeque, and that’s exactly what you can expect to get at Smoque BBQ.

9. Fat Rice

Address: 2957 W. Diversey Ave., Chicago, IL 60647

Chinese food is on the Mount Rushmore of cuisines in the cannabis community. And rightfully so, this stuff is addictively delicious. But Fat Rice takes that delectable series of dishes to the next level by adding a Portuguese twist to their food. They set a sincerely cool vibe by routinely blasting old-school hip-hop through their speaker system. So you can bob along to the beat while enjoying some of their award-winning dishes. Sounds pretty damn good, right?

8. Superdawg Drive-In

Address: 6363 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago, IL 60646

From the moment you pull up to Superdawg Drive-In, you feel like you were just transported through time and landed in a simpler era of America. One in which the biggest concern was having enough change to buy a burger or two. But this nostalgically designed diner rests comfortably in the present time, and the amount of repeat business they enjoy on a regular basis is beyond admirable. So head on over to Superdawg after your next session, and grab yourself a signature dog and a malt. You’ll be happy that you did.

7. Pequod’s Pizza

Address: 2207 N. Clybourn Ave., Chicago, IL 60614

What would a Chicago list of eateries be without a pizza joint on it? Now, obviously, the question of “Who has the best pizza in Chicago?” is a hot-button issue. The polarizing question seems to start more arguments than anything. So, simply consider Pequod’s Pizza as a peacemaker of sorts. You could go directly there to munch on a pie with some smoker buddies, or you could simply see this entry as a reminder to hit up your preferred location. Wherever you wind up, the fact remains that pizza is one of the end-all, be-all food options for the cannabis enthusiast – and Chicago is full of amazing places. So, you really can’t go wrong.

6. Mindy’s Hot Chocolate

Address: 1747 N. Damen Ave., Chicago, IL 60647

Sure, a meat-filled meal does sound pretty good after a smokeout, but every now and then, the senses can’t help but crave something sweet after the joint is put out. Which is where Mindy’s Hot Chocolate comes in. This place is owned by a world-renowned pastry chef, Mindy Segal. She’s even won a James Beard award for her work in the culinary field. Now, if that doesn’t entice you to hit this place up the next time the munchies take over, I don’t know what will!

5. Band of Bohemia

Address: 4710 N. Ravenswood Ave., Chicago, IL 60640

This is probably the most upscale, classiest brewpub I’ve ever seen. Located on the North Side of good ol’ Chicago, their kitchen is known to sling out jaw-dropping, mouthwatering gourmet dishes to their guests. Each of which holds their very own special taste and flavor profile. Also, should you want a couple suds to go along with your meal, they are more than happy to oblige, as they have a plethora of different craft beers to choose from.

4. Lula Cafe

Address: 2537 N. Kedzie Ave., Chicago, IL 60647

Calm, quaint, and infectiously modern. Those are the best words to describe this unique cafe located in Logan Square. While you may think they are known for their coffee, they are actually more famous for being at the forefront of the “Farm-to-Table” trend that’s only grown in popularity over the years. It’s not uncommon to see lines of eager eaters out front, anxiously waiting for a table to open up. So, be sure to hit this place up during the more subdued times. Those usually happen during the weekdays in the morning. What a way to wrap up a wake and bake session.

3. Honey Butter Fried Chicken

Address: 3361 N. Elston Ave., Chicago, IL 60618

Some places just make you drool with their delectable-sounding name. And Honey Butter Fried Chicken is one of those establishments. There’s something amazing about biting into a crunchy piece of perfectly fried chicken that brings a smile to my face. After a smoke session with the crew, I can’t think of anything better to see than a plate full of fried chicken and fries. Oh, and if they have some mac and cheese, I doubt I’ll ever want to leave. This is a “must-visit” type of restaurant. Trust me.

2. Johnnie’s Beef

Address: 7500 W. North Ave., Elmwood Park, IL 60707

As the only non-Chicago based entry on the list, you should see that as an indicator of how great this place is. In Illinois, Italian beef sandwiches are somewhat of a delicacy. Many try to perfect the recipe, but only a select few accomplish that goal. Johnnie’s Beef, located in Elmwood Park, has one of the best interpretations of this beloved sandwich, and it’s more than worth the commute out of the city to get one. They are that damn good!

1. Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse

Address: 1028 N. Rush Street, Chicago, IL 60611

Classic and classy. A feature in most films and shows based in Chicago, you’ve likely seen their iconic signage at least once before in your life. It’s so popular, you may even see someone famous digging into a steak there. And if it’s good enough for a high-paid, world-famous actor or athlete, it’s more than good enough for your stoney palette, that’s for sure.

Now, I’m sure you’ve noticed that the majority of these places are in Chicago. I’m well aware of the vastness of Illinois, but most of the dispensaries are found in this major city, so it only makes sense that you’ll be hungriest when in this particular region.

No matter what place you choose, the chances of your food tasting even better after a smoke session is through the roof!

Enjoy.
