Mexican Hot Chocolate
Being that it is full-on winter mode here in Chicago, I browsed Verilife’s online menu and saw Sweet Life by Hannah’s Infused Mexican Hot Chocolate, and knew I couldn’t resist. This mix contains 30mg of THC of an unspecified variety. It’s intended to be mixed in with hot water or milk, just like an instant hot chocolate pack.
Appearance 4/5
The Mexican Hot Chocolate comes sealed inside a brown paper pouch. Right away, I thought this gave the product a nice handmade quality. After unsealing the pouch, I looked inside and saw the mix. In order to get a better look — and pictures for this site — I poured the contents out. The mix is really a two-part combination. There are semi-fine grains, which resemble instant coffee mix. But there is also a solid piece, which I believe, contains spices and possibly more chocolate. I found the look of the product to be pretty appealing. I don’t drink hot chocolate very often, so it always feels like a treat to me, and this variety seemed to be something special. The colors looked rich, and I couldn’t wait to mix it up.
Aroma 4/5
As soon as I opened the pouch, a waft of chocolate, cinnamon, and other spices hit me. It’s a smell that will be familiar to anyone who’s tried homemade Mexican hot chocolate before. Mexican hot chocolate adds spices to the traditional formula, which adds depth and dimension to the flavor. I did not smell any cannabis scent in the dry mix whatsoever.
Taste 5/5
I prepared the hot chocolate using a mix of the package’s instructions, and a tip from the clerk at Verilife. I put 6 oz. of water on an electric kettle, and heated it until it boiled. The pack says to use boiling water, but the clerk said the water temperature should be just below boiling, as boiling water can negatively affect the cannabis compounds. I let the water cool for a couple of minutes before pouring and stirring. Like the smell, the taste matched Abuelita hot chocolate very closely, though once it was mixed, I did taste a touch of cannabis. It wasn’t very strong, however, as it was easily overpowered by the rich-tasting chocolate and festive spices.
Effect 5/5
After drinking the hot chocolate, I took care of a few home tasks because I knew that once it hit, it would hit hard. The Verilife clerk gave me a preview when he told me of his experience with it!After about 30 minutes, I started to feel the effects: a sudden calm, and mild tingly body feelings. Any pains I had were slowly melting away. After an hour in, I felt fully high: euphoric, goofy, and experiencing a strong body high.It was great, but it wasn’t done rising just yet. I started to worry a bit that I would become too high, but decided to roll with it. I had a really pleasant, if not a bit delirious, high. Though, that’s not a surprise, considering the 30mg dose is higher than I normally take. A full dose of this would definitely be best-suited for a stay-at-home session. It’s also worth noting that the high lasted for quite some time. I took this around 6 pm, and I felt that pleasant sort of “high hangover” in the morning.
Product price: $8
I’d highly recommend Sweet Life By Hannah’s Mexican Hot Chocolate to all users. It’s a strong enough dose for medical patients, and produces the desired effects of minimizing pain, relieving anxiety, and an overall sense of comfort. Dosing can be a little tricky, though, unless you weigh out the powder and measure your liquid.
Sweet Life By Hannah’s Mexican Hot Chocolate was a winner on all fronts. Sure, the packaging could be more attractive, but it still had an appealing quality, and the product inside looked great. The smell and taste are fantastic, as long as you like cinnamon and spice — and come on, who doesn’t love chocolate? The high it produced was strong, pleasant, and long-lasting. Try it out on a cold winter’s day when you just want to cozy up and chill indoors.

Verlilife Dispensary. I purchased this product at Verilife in Arlington Heights. Verilife is a medical marijuana dispensary, with locations in Arlington Heights, North Aurora, Ottawa, and Romeoville. There are also Verilife locations in Maryland, Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
This branch is located in a strip mall off Arlington Heights Road. It’s a discreet location that almost looks like an office space, or bank. Parking was plentiful, and the store had a few customers inside, but there was no wait.
The lobby is clean and bright, with modern green furniture, and a front desk with employees greeting customers and answering questions. Those without medical licenses are welcome to wait in the lobby. All the product is kept in a separate room, which you can see into through a glass wall.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful during my first visit. They walked me through the process of switching my dispensary to Verilife, so I could make a purchase that day. I was able to use one of their on-site computers to make the switch.
While I waited for the account to process, I chatted with the team about their store, and they let me know that they plan on remaining a medical-only dispensary. Other Verilife locations in Illinois — North Aurora, Romeoville, and Ottawa — are currently selling recreational cannabis.
The purchasing process was simple and easy, and the behind-the-counter staff members were just as friendly (and helpful) as the front desk team, answering my questions and giving me great recommendations.
