Mindy’s Botanical White Grapefruit Gummies
Award winning chef Mindy Segal, owner of Mindy’s Hot Chocolate, has been a staple of Chicago food culture for more than a decade. Recently, she paired up with Cresco Labs to make edibles for the Chicago cannabis market. A bag of Mindy’s Botanical White Grapefruit Gummies comes with 20 gummies, each of which contains 2mg of THC.
Appearance 5/5
These candies come in a lovely white bag, with black and peach printing. The Mindy’s Edibles logo is at the top, and beneath a brief description, there are grapefruit, butterflies, and blossoms printed over shapes, including the ribbed, circular form of the gummy. The gummies are about 1⁄2 inch in diameter, and slightly shorter than they are wide. Like a blossom, they are ribbed around the edges. Each gummy is covered in sugar crystals, which makes the gummy appear pale and yellow. However, after taking a bite, the inside of the gummy is a light peach, and hints of pink can be seen under direct light.
Aroma 4/5
Like most candy, the aroma is faint. I can only smell the gummies when they are right next to my nose. The aroma reminds me of grapefruit scented soap. The smell also reminds me of Pixie Stix. While the grapefruit scent is very much present, the botanicals in the aroma are nonexistent. More than anything, these gummies smell like sugar. The scent is faint, but these gummies make up for it in other ways.
Taste 5/5
I was blown away by the flavor and texture of these gummies. The sugar coating makes them crunchy and firm, and adds a nice sweetness to the overall mild flavor. The packaging compares the taste to that of a grapefruit cocktail with gin botanicals. Aside from the delicate grapefruit flavor and mild sweetness, I can taste some floral notes, but none of these flavors were overpowering. Since these gummies are so delicious and low in THC, it is hard to resist eating more of them.
Effect 5/5
The effects of these gummies are overall mild, but pleasant. To get high, I think it is expected that most people will eat a few gummies, especially since they are so delicious. However, the effects of eating just one gummy are calming and relaxing, without feeling too high. After eating one in the morning, I didn’t get a headache later in the day, as I do with lower quality edibles. After eating several, my whole body felt relaxed, and I didn’t want to move, although I didn’t feel altogether drowsy.
Product price: $20 for 20 2mg gummies
Although they are quite low in THC, I believe these are the best gummies on the market in Chicago right now. I would recommend them over any other gummies I have tried, in the Chicago market, or elsewhere. They are great low-dose edibles, and they are amazing for people with dietary restrictions, as they are vegetarian, using pectin rather than gelatin, and non-GMO inhibitors.
These edibles are so much more than a vehicle for cannabis. They are so delicious, I would honestly eat these even if they did not contain THC. I am looking forward to trying more of Mindy Segal’s edibles, especially the chocolates and fruit chews, and I definitely intend on buying the Botanical White Grapefruit Gummies again.

Dispensary33 in Andersonville is by far the most high tech dispensary in Chicago.
Recreational users are admitted two ways: through Eventbrite tickets (via a link on their website), and through in-person registration. To register, customers must arrive at (or before) 9 am, and provide their phone number. They admit as many customers as they are able to serve each day.
I arrived in person around 8 am, and gave my phone number to an employee in front of the building. Immediately, I received a text that said, “You’re in line at D33! You’ll get a text when it’s your turn to the shop.”
At 8:59 am, I received another text: “TIME TO SHOP! Return to D33 within 1 hour. Show this text to the guard and have your 21+ ID ready.”
When I got back to D33, I entered a waiting room full of people waiting to check-in. With the “TIME TO SHOP!” text, I skipped the line, and showed it to the employee at the front desk, who gave me a barcode, and admitted me into the dispensary.
The products are lit like artifacts in display cases along the walls. One contains accessories, such as bongs and grinders, another contains concentrates, and the third contains flower. Each strain has a large nug on display, and is shown with a card detailing the name, origin, THC and CBD content, effects, and price.
There are two glass tables in the center of the room, displaying their large selection of edibles, one with chocolate, the other with gummies, pills, and other snacks. Vapes are displayed in the glass counter where they take your payments.
Shortly after I entered, an employee with an iPad called my name. She scanned the barcode, and answered my questions before taking my order. When I was ready to pay, an employee at the counter scanned my barcode once again, and provided me with a four digit number on my receipt that was called out when my order was packed and ready.
