Whether you’re brand new to the world of cannabis, or a lifelong fan of all things related to marijuana, the likelihood of you wanting to be cost-effective during your shopping excursion at the dispensary is pretty high. Nobody wants to be overcharged for their bud, but I’m sure that goes without saying. When we are in the position to purchase, well, anything, we want to feel like we’re getting some sort of deal.
Sure, we’re more than fine paying a fair, respectable price for something that maintains a similar level of value and/or importance. But that feeling pales in comparison to when you spot a desired item for a dirt-cheap price. It’s almost like you’re pulling a “fast one” on the store.
Here’s How Much A Gram Of Cannabis Is Sold For Around The World
Are they sure they meant this price for that? I better hurry up and check out before they realize the massive mistake they just made. That’s pretty much my thought process whenever I spot a budget-friendly product at a dispensary.
When the opposite happens, however, and I spot a mediocre item sitting atop an outrageously high price tag, I’m shocked – and even a little offended.

How do dumb do they think I am? Do they really expect me to fork over that much for that? Oh, I don’t think so. Those are the sort of thoughts racing through my head the moment I feel like I am being taken advantage of, financially. Also, the second I feel like I may be amongst swindlers at a cannabis club, I get the hell out of there. That’s right, I leave. And I may never come back.
Hell, I may even flee the country altogether, if that sort of monetary mayhem continues. So, if you’re anything like me, and share this same satisfaction for deals and aberration for price-gouging, you may want to pack your bags, and head for more financially green pastures. But, if you’re planning on going anywhere it’s probably smart to see what other countries and cities around the world are doing in their neck of the woods, as far as marijuana is concerned.
Because, I don’t know about you, but I’m going to need some weed in whatever new place I decide to call home – and it better be affordable. That’s why I went ahead and did some research, and found out what the average price points are for a typical gram of cannabis in areas all over the planet. And what I learned, was pretty dang shocking, to be honest.
First, let’s look at things on a global scale.
As I dove deeper into my research surrounding the prices of grams in various countries, I found one common thread amongst the top places that had the highest “per gram” values. In those areas, they still consider marijuana to be illegal. Therefore, it’s not as readily available. And, with anything considered a rarity, the average price point goes up, as it becomes difficult (and legally risky) to even acquire the smallest amount.

Also, another commonality between these expensive destinations, is they majoritively find themselves in the Eastern part of the world. Not sure if that has more to do with the legal ramifications surrounding cannabis, or perhaps, the climate cycles there don’t offer up optimal conditions for marijuana to grow properly. I’m not quite sure. But, what I do know, is that these areas are charging an arm and a leg for a gram of weed. And, even if you agree to hand over a small fortune for a bit of bud, if caught by the authorities, you’re going to be in a world of hurt, that’s for sure.
So, for these places to be atop the list of highest “per gram” price tags makes nothing but sense to me, but the monetary value they are placing on these miniscule amounts of marijuana are equal parts laughable and unbelievable.
If you find yourself anywhere near China, and want to pick up a little bud to soothe your jet lag, you better be prepared to hit up an ATM, because these folks do not play when it comes to the price of bud out there.
For example, if you were trying to grab a dank nug for you and your travel buddies in Beijing or Shanghai, you’d likely have to pay someone a little over $20 to even get a gram. And that’s only if you can find a “back alley” dealer willing to hook you up. Chances are, this illegal miscreant will overcharge non-residents, resulting in an even higher price tag.
Thinking about taking a trip to Ireland? Awesome. Have a good time.
But be sure to stuff those pockets with enough ducats to pay for weed when you get there. Because if you find yourself in this jolly, beer-filled country, and want to smoke a bit of herb, you’ll have to find a local with an “in” on some ganja. And if you’re lucky enough to find an Ireland native with some bud, you’ll likely have to pay him close to $25 just for a gram. Which, to me, is absurd.

But it gets even worse than that, party people.
If you were to try and get marijuana in Tokyo, Japan – one of the most populated areas on the entire planet – you’d have to pay upwards of $32 just for a gram!
Yeah, you read that right. Give that a second to sink in.
For the price of a bargain 1/8th in the states, you’d only get 1 gram of cannabis in Japan. And, on top of that, its aggressively illegal out there. So, the risk (and price) simply isn’t worth the lackluster reward in this case, not by a long shot.
Conversely, if we take a gander at the other hemisphere, we’ll see the price tides turning a bit in our favor. Look at Uruguay or Panama, for example. In Montevideo, Uruguay not only is cannabis completely legal and embraced by the culture, but you’d only have to pay, on average, $4.15 for a gram! Now that’s a deal, my friends.
Also, in Panama City, Panama, while marijuana is still considered illegal, local law enforcement doesn’t have it very high on their priority list. That, in concert with the ideal growing conditions of this area, the typical price one would have to pay for a gram of cannabis is under $4!
Staying in this part of the world, you will find the cheapest weed on the planet. And it’s in a country that you probably wouldn’t have guessed.

Ecuador.
Yup. This quaint country can proudly boast about having the most affordable marijuana, with the price of an average gram coming in at a jaw-droppingly low, $1.34!
Less than $2 can get you high in this decriminalized territory. Pretty great, right? I mean, McDonald’s charges more for french fries, for crying out loud!
So, even though I’m probably not going to move, I am going to pack my bags (and my pipe), and plan a trip to Ecuador immediately. That sort of budget-friendly approach to decriminalized bud is just the remedy I need after overpaying for weed in the states.
However, if you don’t have a passport, or would just like to stay in the good ol’ USA, you can find some affordable bud options in Seattle, Denver, and San Francisco. The average gram prices in those cities are well under $10. So, you should be able to find something that fits into your “bud budget” no matter what it may be.
