Edibles can be fickle at times. And, with everyone’s personal body chemistry designed to react differently to cannabis, and edibles specifically, it makes it increasingly difficult to know precisely how a certain edible is going to hit you if it even hits you at all. Self-dosing can turn into a pointless waiting game, resulting in you frustratingly waiting for effects to hit, only for them never to arrive.
Or, more commonly, you’ll wait and wait, not feel anything, leading you to increase your dosage – just as the effects kick in. This tactic usually results in the consumer being “too high,” which isn’t always desired, especially by newer cannabis enthusiasts, who don’t have much experience in the world of edible cannabis.
Tips & Tricks To Get Your Edible To Hit As Fast As Possible
At the end of the day, we all want the same thing, we want our edibles to hit, and we want them to hit as soon as possible, so we can enjoy our high, without having to endure a painstaking wait. But, that raises the all-too-important question of how to make edibles work faster. Because, essentially, we don’t want to spend money on a product, excitedly try it, and realize, hours later, that the edibles aren’t working.
Which, in my opinion, is one of the biggest let-downs all the time.

But, have no fear, my fellow edible enthusiasts. Apparently, there are some items one could take in order to achieve a faster edible experience. You just have to know what to ingest, and when to ingest it. And, if you accomplish those few steps, you’ll likely be left enjoying a fast-acting, long-lasting high, courtesy of your now rapidly-released edible effects.
However, before we get into the various items you can search for in order to obtain a fast-acting edible experience, there’s something you can do for your body, that would ultimately increase the effects of an edible, regardless of its origin. And it all comes down to metabolism.
The better your metabolism is, the quicker edibles will hit you. It’s just pure science, my friends. THC (or CBD) in an edible needs to utilize your metabolism in order to find its way into your system. That means the more efficient your body is at metabolizing food, the quicker it’ll metabolize those potent elements of cannabis.
The best way to increase your metabolism is through exercise. Pretty simple, right? The more you workout, the better off you’ll be. But it doesn’t just start and stop with a jog every now and then.
You have to take on a truly healthy lifestyle in order for your metabolism to reach its optimal level. Drink lots of water, eat tons of protein, go on runs, and try you best to get as much sleep as you can. These steps will not only make you a healthier person, but they’ll be able to heighten your metabolism to the point where edibles will hit you fast and hard – every single time.

Alrighty, once you’ve properly implemented all of those health-related elements into your lifestyle, your metabolism should be in top-notch shape. And, when it is, it’ll be “high-time” to reward it with some quality edibles. But not just any THC treats, mind you. It’s all about the specific sort of edible you pick that will, ultimately, help you achieve those quickened effects that you are searching for.
Let’s start with sublingual tinctures, shall we?
I’m sure you’ve all seen these darkened bottles lingering in the display cases at your local dispensary. The top of each of these bottles is equipped with a dropper, to help the consumer adequately dose themselves. Now, of course, you could add a couple of drops into a beverage or a recipe, but if you’re looking to cut out the marijuana “middle man,” so to speak, a few drops of tincture under the tongue should provide you with the speedy series of effects that you so desperately desire.

The placement of drops under the tongue allows the psychoactive properties of the tincture to enter your bloodstream in the quickest way possible. I’d also suggest letting the tincture dissolve in this area of the mouth, as opposed to swallowing it.
If you were to just gulp it down, it would, effectively, become just any other edible that relies on the digestive tract to help release its potency. But, if you are diligent and patient enough to allow those drops to find their own way into your system, under your tongue, you’ll quickly realize just how effective this method of dosing is.
As I alluded to above, you can easily apply drops of tincture into any number of drinks for a similar effect, though the potency may be delayed slightly. However, when compared to its typical edible counterparts (cookies, candies, etc.), the effects kick in super quick. But, you don’t necessarily need to create your own cannabis-infused beverage, via tincture. There are plenty of companies out there, who have done all the hard work for you, with their own line of specifically designed cannabis-infused beverages.

Some use sativa strains to help awaken the otherwise sleepy stoner to start their day off on a productive note. Or, just as common, you can find beverages chock full of snooze-inducing indicas, that’ll help the consumer find the much-needed sleep they’ve been trying to get for weeks. And, if you’re looking for a socially-functional and talkative elixir, they have plenty of hybrid options to choose from, as well.
So, be sure to ask your budtender about the options they have on hand, and I’m sure they’ll be able to get you a THC (or CBD) beverage to suit your personal needs and wants.
Of course, there are other products out there that are streamlined and specifically designed to get into the bloodstream of the consumer faster, but those are still somewhat of a rarity at the average dispensary. However, as the cannabis industry continues to grow and expand with each passing month, the chances of these fast-acting edibles becoming “the norm” are incredibly high.
Much like those of us who know how to make edibles hit quicker.
