Motorbreath Popcorn

Motorbreath is a cross between Chemdawg and San Fernando Valley (SFV) OG. This potent indica-dominant hybrid has a THC percentage of 30.9%.

Motorbreath Smalls from Verano is a 3.5 gram pack of popcorn buds– i.e. the small buds that come from the bottom part of the plant. Verano sells popcorn buds of their premium flower in 3.5 gram jars marketed as Smalls.

The Motorbreath Smalls came with buds in a wide variety of sizes, from half the size of a pinky nail to one nug that was 1” tall. The buds are firm, but they pull apart easily. The color of the buds mostly ranges from army green to forest green, but some of the buds had deep purple hues.

Since these are popcorn buds, every bud had a stem down the middle. The stems in the smaller buds could be ground down with the flower, but I did have to pick out many stems. This eighth weighed-in at 3.58 grams, but I believe I threw away more than 0.08 grams of stems.

Aroma 2/5
Motorbreath is named for its potent aroma. This strain lived up to its name. I could smell this strain through the glass jar it is packaged in. Just opening the jar of Motorbreath leaves the room smelling like cannabis for an hour. The aroma has a chemical-lemon aroma like the aroma of a cleaning product. It is also sour in a fermented way. While this product is extremely fragrant, the aroma doesn’t have any of the sweet, fresh cannabis aroma I enjoy. The aroma was just too strong to be enjoyable.

By the time there was a gram and a half left, I could no longer smell the flower whenever I walked by–or maybe I got used to it.

Taste 3/5
This strain has such a potent aroma that it can almost be tasted. It has a fragrant, soapy flavor that almost reminds me of a hoppy IPA. There is a strong diesel taste, and a hint of lemon. The taste does not stand out from other high-quality cannabis that is bred for effects rather than flavor. It is moderately pleasant, but the flavor can be harsh, especially at the beginning of the inhale.

Motorbreath has a very intense high. At 30.9% THC, this isn’t very surprising, but the effects were even stronger than I had anticipated. I felt so high after three hits of a joint that I felt a wave of queasiness. My arms felt tingly and warm. I kept smoking, and a deep stony feeling came over me. I mostly experienced a body high with this strain, but it was not sedating. Not only was the high from this strain strong, but it lasted for several hours.

This is a very strong strain that I recommend to regular smokers. I also recommend this strain to those who are not bothered by the aroma of cannabis in their environment because it is so fragrant.

As always with popcorn buds, I recommend that users who roll their cannabis grind it twice because of the sharp stem in the center of the buds.

With THC levels of almost 31%, this is a potent product. I enjoyed the intense high that Motorbreath provided, but I found it annoyingly fragrant, even in the glass jar it was packaged in. Still, that wouldn’t prevent me from buying more Motorbreath from Verano because the flower is so good.

I went to MOCA in Logan Square for the first time last week. In contrast to many of the dispensaries in Chicago which have pristine, medical environments, this dispensary has a lot of character, from the fence gating in the entryway to the mismatched drawings of buds on the walls of the long hallway that leads to the main room of the dispensary.

MOCA serves medical patients and recreational customers. Their recreational menu usually has five to eight varieties of flower and one pre-roll. They have an extensive selection of gummies and chocolates, in addition to a few unique edibles. They also have a decent selection of concentrates and vape products. They have a much wider selection of accessories than any of the other dispensaries in Chicago. Not only do they sell devices to vape concentrates, but they sell unique bongs and bubblers, in addition to the standard glass pieces one would find at a smoke shop.

I made an account to place my order on the online ordering system the night before I planned my trip to MOCA. I received an email with an itemized receipt with my order. The next day, I arrived at the dispensary 15 minutes before my scheduled pick-up time, and was told that I cannot pick up my order more than five minutes early. When I came back, I showed my ID and email confirmation to the security guards, and they sent me to a desk at the back of a large room. I then walked down a long hallway into the main portion of the dispensary and waited a few minutes for the staff to call my name.
