On this visit, I picked up Shelby County Community Services’ THC Caramels. These chewy caramels come in a 6-pack. Each piece contains 16 mg THC, for a total of 96 mg THC in the pack. The THC is a hybrid
strain called Cuvee. Cuvee is a rare strain known for its calming, uplifting effects, and sweet, rich taste.

Appearance 3/5
The caramels come in a long purple transparent plastic tube. The tube’s lid has a push-down-and-twist
mechanism. Inside, the caramels are each individually wrapped in plastic, which helps them to avoid
getting stuck together. I was surprised at how light in color these caramels were. I’m used to seeing a
richer brown color, at least in typical caramels.

All in all, these didn’t wow me with looks, but knowing these were produced by Shelby County Community Services and not some large producer, that makes sense. Besides, it’s what’s on the inside that counts!

Aroma 4/5
After opening the tube and unwrapping a piece, I caught a whiff of sweet sugar. There’s a hint of vanilla
too. I didn’t detect a strong cannabis scent, and that’s a shame because from what I read about the
Cuvee strain, it has a really pleasant smell.

Taste 3/5
I have to be honest and say that I found the taste and overall eating experience disappointing. The
caramels were very soft and immediately started to break down with my first bite. As you chew, pieces
start to get stuck in your teeth, and the caramel feels oddly gritty. The overall flavor I picked up on was
sweetness, with a touch of vanilla and a mild cannabis aftertaste.

All that being said, these are not artisanal caramels made from milk produced by grass-fed cows. You’re
eating them because they get you high. So, although they can’t hold a candle to good caramel, they were
fine as an infused edible product.

Effect 5/5
This is where my opinion of these caramels starts to change. As I mentioned earlier, to me, the most
important factor in edibles is their effect. These caramels do not disappoint. I took these caramels on a
Saturday in which I had been running around all day doing errands and housework. By the early
afternoon, I was tired and took a nap, but before I did, I ate a caramel.

About an hour later, I woke up and my head was rushing with thoughts. I felt rested from the nap, and
alert and super stimulated from the high. Overall the high produced was a buzzy, creative one but also
fairly soothing. The Cuvee strain is an indica-dominant, and I figure the mellowing effects came from
that side of things. The high lasted for quite some time as well, easily going past four hours, which was
nice. Though my mind was racing at times, I never felt overwhelmed or anxious.

Product price: $26

These caramels are not for you if: you really care about great taste and an artisanal aesthetic. They’re
also not for you if you are a first-time edibles user or are used to smaller doses. The 16mg THC dose in
each of these bad boys is not for the faint of heart. If you are a more experienced user looking for a
pleasant yet stimulating high, these are up your alley.

I had a really nice experience with these caramels, and would definitely purchase them again. I’d also
look more into products by Shelby County Community Services in the future. I like knowing what strain I
am consuming, and I’d be into trying more obscure strains after the experience I had with their Cuvee
caramels.

I visited Nature’s Care on a Friday right around noon. The combination medical and recreational
dispensary is tucked into an industrial part of Rolling Meadows, a northwestern suburb of Chicago. Nature’s Care has been open throughout the pandemic. They were designated an essential business by the governor, and have shown a commitment to safety ever since. Guests are required to social distance inside and outside the store, the staff take several precautions to ensure the sales floor is clean and
sanitized, and the dispensary has enacted a curbside pickup service for medical patients.
To utilize this, simply select curbside pickup when placing your order on Jane, then park in the back lot of the store. An associate will be out with your product in no time and take payment. After that you’re on your way! Nature’s Care carries a wide range of products from an array of producers, many of which are Illinois based. Browse their online catalog through Jane, and you’ll find a ton of options whether you’re looking for flower, vapes, concentrates, edibles, pre-rolls, topicals, or any supplies you need.

The online order and pickup process is easy to use and makes for a seamless experience: just get to Nature’s Care at your chosen time slot, and you won’t wait long to receive your product and be on your way. I’d highly recommend Nature’s Care as your home base dispensary whether you are a medical patient or recreational customer. Their friendly, insightful staff makes for a great experience every time.
