Green Crack is a popular sativa known for its energizing and mentally-stimulating effects. This strain is commonly used to treat depression, stress, and fatigue. It is bred from Skunk #1 and Afghani. Since the name draws an unwanted comparison between cannabis and, well, crack, some people like to call this strain, Green Cush, or GC. No matter what it’s called, this is one of the most purely energizing strains on the market.

Appearance 5/5
The medium-sized nugs of Green crack are about the size (and shape) of popcorn. They are hard, dense, and prickly. The texture reminds me of tiny, highly compact pinecones. The shape of each bud is uneven and unique. The army green buds are coated with trichomes, from the crinkley ridges on the outside to the thin stems, that are the width of angel hair pasta. The eighth I purchased came with six medium-sized nugs and six small ones.

Aroma 3/5
For a potent strain, Green Crack has a mild aroma. The scent is tart, lemony, and green. It smells like a very healthy salad, or green smoothie -- one with kale, celery, and lemon juice. The smell also reminds me of fresh cut grass. The scent is fresh, crisp, and green.

The aromatic profile is pleasant, but I adjusted the rating down because I prefer a more powerful scent. This eighth of Green Crack can hardly be smelled without putting my nose right next to the open jar.

Taste 5/5
The taste of Green Crack is surprisingly soft and peppery. The flavor reminds me of warm fruitcake. It also reminds me of herbal tea, the kind that comes in a mesh bag, where you can see the different spices. There is also a touch of lemon and cream present, as well.

Much like the aroma, the flavor is not bold, and no part of it is overpowering. The smoke is very smooth, and the mild taste is more pleasant than many more flavorful strains, which is nice.

Effect 5/5
Green Crack is even more energizing than the average sativa. Not only did this strain make me feel focused and productive, but it gave me a pleasant buzz at the back of the head (and the heart), that I have rarely experienced with cannabis. It gave me an excited, giddy, almost butterflies-in-the-stomach feeling.

Even though the main draw of this strain is its energizing effects, it also stimulated my appetite significantly, and made my body feel extremely relaxed.

Green Crack is one of the better daytime strains, in my opinion. I recommend this strain particularly to people who are looking to medicate early in the day for loss of appetite and/or pain relief. It can also be used as a boost of energy in the evening, since it doesn’t interfere with sleep, even if used right before bed.

While most strains fade into my memory after the cannabis is gone, Green Crack has left a lasting impression on me, as one of my new favorite strains, and, as always, this flower from Verano did not disappoint. I’ve found this to be the best strain to keep me happy and motivated during self-isolation, and I think you will, too.

The Great Cannabis Shortage of 2020 is finally over, and just in time for Illinoians to stay at home, and enjoy it!

Even though most dispensaries in Chicago are only servicing medical patients, Sunnyside is keeping flower in stock for everyone -- and not just one or two eighths, but a variety of strains and weights, from grams to half-ounces, indicas, sativias, and hybrids. Everything. Although each batch of flower they get in goes fast, they are getting deliveries two or three times a week, and even on a bad day, there are more choices than there were on the “best day” two months ago.

Sunnyside is adapting, too. They have changed their hours and ordering practices to help keep people apart, while still serving as many people as possible. This was my first trip to Sunnyside that didn’t involve at least one hour of waiting, and the customer service, from the security guards outside to the extremely friendly budtender who helped me out, has much improved.

The only remaining frustration is the new online ordering platform that Sunnyside Dispensary launched for all customers about a month ago.

The ordering window opens at noon, and it stays open for a matter of seconds, during which time customers must add items to their cart, and place the order before it is too late. However, this has improved, as well.

Customers can now add some items to their cart when the window is not open, but only sometimes. There is no apparent system for this, and some items are available to add to the cart, where some are not. But, either way, it helps customers get items into their cart, and ready to press the “Place Order” button when the clock strikes noon.
