Katsu Bubba Kush is a phenotype of Bubba Kush known for its resin-heavy buds and euphoric effects. Katsu is a Japanese chicken dish covered in panko bread crumbs. This phenotype differs from Bubba Kush because of its higher THC levels. This 1 gram pre-roll from Cresco Labs has a THC content of 21.87%.

Appearance 3/5
When I pulled the Katsu Bubba Kush pre-roll out of the clear plastic tube, I noticed that it was indented in several places, and the pre-roll was packed loosely. I got three pre-rolls from Cresco Labs, and this was the only one that was crunched.

The shake inside was dark green and powdery, with small, copper-colored pieces. There were quite a few twigs and stems in the shake, but it appeared to be fresh.

Aroma 5/5
The aroma of Katsu Bubba Kush is deliciously complex. There is a strong pine aroma that smells like the needles that fell off a Christmas tree. Beyond the intense earthiness, there is a twinge of skunk and a slight creaminess. There is a hint of diesel and citrus, particularly lime. The aroma of this pre-roll even has a slight spiciness, hinting at cinnamon and cumin.

This pre-roll is extremely fragrant, and I could smell the cannabis through the plastic tube it was packaged in.

Taste 4/5
Katsu Bubba Kush has a unique flavor that reminds me of Ube ice cream because of its rich, starchy sweetness. The taste also reminded me of dark purple grape juice–the kind they give to children at church that tastes dry, like non-alcoholic wine. This strain is slightly sweet, but there is a richness that overpowers it. There are slight herbal notes, as well, particularly rosemary and lavender. The taste of Katsu Bubba Kush was pleasant and complex.

Effect 4/5
This Katsu Bubba Kush pre-roll made me feel serene. I felt a sense of calmness in my body, and my skin felt tingly. My mind felt tranquil and unfocused.

The effects of this strain were wildly pleasant in the first half hour, but faded quickly. I felt barley high an hour later, and two hours later, I didn’t feel like I had smoked at all. Fortunately, this included the slight drowsiness that this strain induced.

Product price: $19.80 for 1g

This is a great strain for anyone who likes smoking indicas in the daytime because the effects fade away without any sedation.

The shake inside this pre-roll was relatively coarse, and there was a significant number of stems. For people who do not want to smoke this pre-roll in one sitting, I recommend that users smoke this shake out of a bowl, rather than rolling it into a joint.

If the effects of this strain lasted longer, it would be the perfect indica. The aroma is delicious, the taste is pleasantly unique, and the effects are extremely relaxing–but it fades too fast. I like smoking indicas an hour or two before bed to help treat insomnia, but this strain didn’t help because I felt sober two hours later. Still, the effects were extremely pleasant, and I would certainly try Katsu Bubba Kush again.

I went to Sunnyside River North for the second time last week. I expected it to be busy because the Lakeview location was temporarily closed. I added the items I wanted to my cart in the morning, and placed my order at just after 11:00. Instead of opening the online ordering only on the hour every hour, they open the ordering window at 7:00am, two hours before they open, and leave it open until they have met the capacity they can accommodate each day. Then, they continue to open online ordering on the hour, every hour, throughout the day.

I arrived at the dispensary about an hour after I received my confirmation text. When I entered the check-in room at 22 W. Hubbard Street, I was immediately asked if I walked, took the train, or drove to validate parking if necessary.

I got third in line and waited. And waited… And waited some more. After being third in line for 10 minutes, the woman at the host stand started asking other employees for help, saying that the system was down. It took them about 10 minutes to decide that the system was, in fact, down. Meanwhile, a long line accumulated, snaking around the former restaurant. When the room was full with people standing six feet apart, they started telling customers who entered that there was going to be a delay.

45 minutes after I arrived, tech support set up in a booth in the back. It took him about 10 minutes to resolve the problem, after which, the host was able to print out my ticket and send me over to the dispensary.
