Ozone cultivates seed-grown, pesticide-free cannabis in several states. In Illinois, they partner with the grower, Ascend Wellness. According to its website, Ozone sells “heirloom strains and new exotic blends”. Sudz, one of their new exotic blends, is an Indica strain of unknown origins. I reached out to the company to ask about the strain’s heritage, and I didn’t receive a response. The Sudz pre-roll contained 0.75g of 23.49% THC flower.
Appearance 5/5
This 0.75g pre-roll was around 3” long, including the 1.25” filter. It is wrapped in very thin brown paper, and the filter is made of thick, white cardstock. It is packaged in a plastic tube that is about 4” long and does little to insulate the smell of the product or keep it from getting dried out.
The cannabis inside is ground coarsely, but there are few stems and larger pieces that prevent it from being re-rolled into smaller joints or smoked in a pipe (or a bong). The ground cannabis is mostly made up of different shades of green, from pastel to the army.
Aroma 3/5
This strain has a harsh, slightly-tart, slightly-bitter aroma. There are notes of pine and subtle hints of lemon and vanilla. The aroma is mostly pleasant, but elements are overshadowed by a “half-smoked” smell that seems to plague all of the Ozone products I’ve tried.
I have to say that I purchased two pre-rolls, totaling 1.5g of cannabis at the dispensary, and I could smell the pre-rolls through their plastic tube, through the Sunnyside bag, and through my vinyl purse in the open air on my walk home. This stuff has an extremely strong aroma.
Taste 4/5
Sudz has an earthy citrus taste. There are strong notes of orange and orange rind, but it isn’t sweet at all. The flavor is crisp, and the smoke is harsh. There are subtle, cool menthol notes, as well.
I unrolled half the pre-roll and smoked it in a glass pipe. The other half I tamped down and smoked as it was. Smoking this strain in the glass does nothing for the flavor. I found that the hemp papers used to roll this pre-roll complimented the flavor, and helped mellow it out.
Effect 4/5
At first, this strain made me feel calm and relaxed. While I was smoking, and for the first hour after, the effects were pretty standard for an indica : relaxing and sedating. The effects took place while I was smoking, and increased over the course of the next 10 minutes. After the first hour, the tiredness wore off, and I started to feel anxious. While I still felt high for two more hours, the positive effects wore off in the first hour, and I remained in a daze all day.
Product price: $20.79 for 0.75g
I recommend this strain to people who are looking for a decent indica pre-roll based on dispensary availability.
I recommend that people who purchase this pre-roll smoke it as it comes, rather than unrolling it and smoking the ground cannabis separately. It tastes better in the paper, and the papers burn about as evenly as one can expect.
When I was looking for any information about the parents of the Sudz strain, I stumbled upon an interaction on a Reddit thread, asking about this product specifically. One user said that if it’s from Ozone, it’s probably not very good. The next user replied, and said he tried the product, and it was actually very good.
This mimicked my mental experience trying two Ozone pre-rolls. The first was dry and made me slightly paranoid. Then I tried Sudz, which gave me a relaxed, peaceful, Stoney feeling. The flower just tasted fresher, even though they were cultivated one day apart.

I went to Sunnyside – Lakeview the day after they reopened. All of the dispensaries in Chicago, and all of the Sunnyside locations in the rest of the state, had been closed due to looting. On the day they reopened, their website was so busy, it kept crashing. I couldn’t get the menu to load, much less place an order. The next day, I was able to add items to my cart, but when the online ordering window opened at 9:00 am, my cart was suddenly empty, and I had to start adding items from scratch. Since it was so busy, they did not allow customers to add items to their cart, except when the online ordering window was open.
When I got to the counter, I asked if I could add another pre-roll to my order. He said that the policy had changed and apologized profusely. “I know it seems like I’m being a jerk, but unfortunately we just can’t do that anymore,” he added. I told him not to worry about it, and that it was good to know I could no longer adjust my order in person. I assume he had been turning people down all day because the customers to the left and right both asked their budtender the same question.
That said, the line moved more quickly and efficiently than ever. I was concerned that I would have to wait an hour after arriving to pick up my order like in the early days of the dispensary. Much to my surprise, it was only about 15 minutes before I was inside the dispensary. In my opinion, the mild annoyance of not being able to add to my order in the dispensary is far outweighed by the efficient pick-up experience.
