It’s hard not to say “Crispy Cannabis Blooming Onion” without a hint of an Australian-accent. And I don’t think I’m the only one who associates such a dialect with this one-of-a-kind onion appetizer, which was made famous by Outback Steakhouse, the restaurant chain known for its charming Aussie voiceovers during their commercials.

But, as delicious as those fast-casual bites are, they simply cannot get you high, like this Crispy Cannabis Blooming Onion can. And what’s even better, is it tastes just as awesome as the original, but with a potent THC kick.

If you’re ready to roll up your sleeves, and get started on this recipe, you’ll first need to acquire the following ingredients:

Instructions

  • For starters, slice off the top of one onion, thus creating a nice, flat bottom. Next, slice that onion into quarter portions through the middle of the root end. Follow that up by peeling off the skin. Do the very same thing with your other onion, as well.
  • Next, you’ll need to bring a large pot of salt water to a full boil. You’re going to want to boil those onion quarters until they separate and soften. That usually happens around the 10-minute mark, maybe even a little sooner.
  • When that happens, remove the onions from the pot, and place them onto a baking sheet lined with paper towels. Don’t forget to place them with their cut sides facing downward. Allow them all to drain and mellow out for the time being.
  • Preheat the broiler in the oven
  • Open your oven, and place a rack roughly 6” from the heat source, before you preheat the broiler.
  • Then, grab a saucepan and place it over “Medium” heat. Throw in ¼ cup of cannabis-infused olive oil and bread crumbs. Toss those ingredients together until they turn a delectable golden brown, which usually takes 5 minutes.
  • Follow that up, by adding in your ¼ cup of Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, cayenne, pepper, salt, and garlic. Combine all of those elements until they are fully incorporated with one another.
  • Now, grab your onions, and cut the root end off completely, before you proceed to separate the petals.
  • Grab a 10” (or 12”) round pan, and give it a quick drizzle of cannabis-infused olive oil. Then, strategically place your petals of onion inside, in concentric circles, essentially making it look like a “blooming” onion flower. Hence, the name. Be mindful not to overlap too frequently or too much here.
  • Next, deliver a smattering of bread crumbs onto the petals, before you sprinkle your remaining Parmigiano-Reggiano on everything. Top it off with another healthy drizzling of cannabis-infused olive oil.
  • Then, take that over to your broiler, and toss it inside for 5-10 minutes. Once it is crispy and browned, you can take it out. And, when you take it out, let it mellow back down to room temperature, before applying your final parsley garnish.
