Sojay Haze 1 g pre-roll

If you’re unfamiliar with the Sojay Haze strain, that’s because it’s actually a new strain created by Cresco Labs, drawing off the genetics of the Sativa-dominant hybrid, BC Big Bud. On the whole, the product had a very professional feel to it, which is good, considering the price is a little steep at $21.00 (before tax) for a single pre-roll.

Appearance 5/5
The product comes in a warmly colored, nondescript cardboard box. Inside, is a clear plastic tube, containing a king-size pre-roll with a decent taper. The paper and filter are free of any branding, and the mention of cannabis on the box is minimal.

The flower is very finely ground, and the pre-roll is densely packed. The flower has a bright green coloring, with some orange hairs, and appears to have a large amount of kief mixed in. 

Aroma 4/5
On my way home from the dispensary, the plastic tube holding the pre-roll actually did a fair job of holding in the smell. However, the moment I opened it back home, my room was flooded with a rich, pungent smell. The aroma itself is a very stereotypical skunky base, with sweet and citrusy notes. 

Taste 3/5
Despite the strong smell of the flower, I found the taste to be a little less distinct. Even after sampling some of the bud in a glass water pipe and vaporizer, the flavor still seemed dull compared to some other strains. 

All the same, I was able to detect some notes of citrus and diesel, especially in the vaporizer. To be clear, nothing felt off or wrong about the flavor. There simply wasn’t as much flavor as one would expect at this price point. 

Effect 4/5
When sampling the bud on its own, the effects set in within seconds of smoking and lasted about an hour before there was a noticeable decline. I noticed a strong head rush, and felt uplifted and energized. There were comparatively little body effects, and I was still able to focus on tasks.

I shared the pre-roll with a pair of friends who have similarly high tolerances, and we found it enjoyable, but not excessive. The effects are well suited for social settings, and don’t inhibit conversation, like some other strains can.

In my opinion, the price makes this product unsuitable for medical customers seeking daily relief. In addition, the sativa-dominant nature makes it less effective for pain relief. 

However, the premium product experience and euphoric, uplifting effects make it perfect for recreational customers. Especially for those with a lower tolerance. A Cresco Labs pre-roll can turn any occasion into a fun, memorable time.

The whole process of acquiring this product was fast and painless, thanks to the wonderful staff at RISE Joliet. It was at this point that I realized just how far the cannabis industry in Illinois had developed when I saw the level of polish and presentation put into products like this pre-roll. 

This refinement has a price, of course, and that is the only downside I can really give this product. However, one can look at this in the same way as a fine bottle of wine, or an aged scotch, something to be savored and enjoyed on rare occasions. I would readily recommend Cresco Labs pre-rolls for those special moments with friends, or loved ones.

What first made me choose RISE Joliet was its online waiting system for recreational purchases. I signed up for the waitlist on their website at about 9:50 AM, and at 11:10 AM, I received a text telling me to head over (note: this waitlist opens 15 minutes before opening, and fills quickly). 

Located next to the Louis Joliet Mall, getting to RISE Joliet was a welcome change from navigating through industrial districts to find a hidden-away dispensary. The building is clean, but inconspicuous on the outside, with no lines waiting to enter. 

A security guard at the door checked my ID and let me in, then I checked-in at the front desk. In the next room, I spoke with one of the RISE employees about what I wanted to purchase. I had already decided earlier, using the menu on their website, but she was ready to help me make an informed decision otherwise. 

I proceeded to the counter, where the staff had my order assembled and in a bag. I paid with cash (only accepted form of payment, but ATMs are available inside), and was on my way. The entire process only took me about 10 minutes from start to finish, and the staff were all very friendly. I also liked the modern interior design of the store, and noticed that it was kept very clean. I can definitely see myself coming back to this dispensary again.
