Edibles are becoming more widespread and more diverse in their presentations than ever. No longer a mere brownie, cannabis is now infused into everything from soups to oatmeal.  Sweet Life by Hannah is a brand created by IESO LLC, a grower based in Carbondale, Il. Their focus on wellness is evident in all of their products. This French Onion Soup is just one of IESO’s many delicious options.

Appearance 5/5
At first glance, the French Onion Soup looks like something one could find in a farmer’s market. A homey, almost handmade-feel, font, and design label gently note that this product is cannabis-infused. Though it’s unspecific about the composition of the infusion, this soup let’s you know it packs 100mg of THC per package, along with trace amounts of CBD

Though it looks small, the package is filled to the brim (unlike many other instant soup mixes). Once opened, a hefty amount of onion and savory, orange-tinged spices greets the eye. Green leaves strewn throughout hint at the soup’s medicinal uses.

Aroma 5/5
For those new to Chicago, the name of our city means “Place of the Aromatic.”. This dry-mix soup smells like Chicago’s namesake, though technically, it’s “French.” Savory and spicy-- think cumin, paprika, and pepper, not hot chiles - the scent of the soup piques the senses. Once prepared, a warm, perfect-for-chilly-days smell radiates throughout. With absolutely no cannabis scent, this soup makes a perfect low-profile product.

Taste 5/5
As with most things onion, I often wonder, before purchasing, just how overpowering the taste will be. To my happy surprise, this soup tasted like the onion flavor I enjoy: slightly carmalezised (not enough to be sweet), but al dente enough to hold on to just enough spice, while delivering a palatable texture. Though simple, Sweet Life’s French Onion soup is a cold-weather staple, due to its play between spice, savory, and sweet.

Effect 3/5
Hannah’s Sweet Life French Onion Soup does not indicate the strain used in preparing the cannabis infusion, but like many edibles, the high is mostly felt in the body. An enjoyable aspect about this kind of edible is that, as a soup, it requires time to eat. Unlike eating a gummy and waiting (and then eating another just to be sure), this soup allows users to take it slow, while reducing the wait-time for this all-body high to kick in. With tide-like increments of sensation, the first effects are energetic. As the THC works its way throughout the body, one is left feeling utterly relaxed.

Product price: $10 for a 25g package of instant soup or dip

Sweetlife by Hannah is well-known for creating cannabis-infused edibles beyond the normal spectrum of gummies and mints. This French Onion Soup, which can also be prepared as a sour-cream and onion dip, depending on the mood, is another win for the company. The effects of this infused soup are body-centric, and a great option for those looking for a stimulating, yet soothing experience.

As far as instant soups (or dips) go, this product is just as simple: simply add water. It is especially ideal for those new to edibles, or looking for a way to integrate THC into their daily routine, sans smoke. It is also worth noting, that IESO is primarily focused on bringing forward the medicinal aspects of cannabis in all of their products.

As the world of medical and adult-use cannabis consumption continues to expand, Sweet Life by Hannah continues to craft innovative edibles, like this French Onion Soup. Simple to prepare, and infused with 100g of THC, it is perfect for users of all abilities and experience levels..

As dispensaries across the U.S. find their footing in this current moment, Mission appears to have landed smoothly.

Mission Dispensaries has once again stepped up its game to ensure the safety of all visitors to its location. Despite being one of ever fewer dispensaries open for Adult-Use in Chicago, the current wait-time is less than 15 minutes. A new reservation system allows customers to select their pick-up window hour, which all but eliminates lines of more than three people.

6-feet markers (inside and outside) help customers and patients feel at ease, and the eight-person maximum indoors ensures there is plenty of room to socially distance.  The “one-person-in/one-person-out” rule further guarantees that people spend as little time within the dispensary as possible, minimizing the risk of airborne transmission.

The efficiency of the dispensary, however, has not detracted from Mission’s dedication to the community. Under the new system, after pick-up windows are selected online, Mission staff members reach out to every customer individually by phone to take their order. Questions, suggestions, and concerns are listened to and discussed, with patience, allowing for a personalized-- and meaningful-- service, regardless of how streamlined the new pick-up system may be.

Per the usual, medical card holders are able to walk-in (unlike Adult-Use, who must schedule a pick-up time), but they may have to wait a minute or two at check-in, due to the eight-customer limit.

As I observe the staff engage with customers and patients, I can tell the virus is on everyone’s minds. Yet, I can also tell that the staff at Mission are realizing the extent to which they are an “essential service.”  The number of low-income patients unable to afford medical cards fuels Mission’s steadfastness to Adult-Use. Their resilient and compassionate energy is palpable. As weeks become months, Mission dispensary knows that we are all in this together.

I got this in Chicago and was told by the dispensary that it could be made into a dip. This was a great suggestion. I added the contents of the package to sour cream and mixed it and let it sit in the refrigerator for an hour. The taste was great with raw vegetables. The effect was very nice also. Great as a hostess gift.
