Moby Dick is a sativa strain developed in Amsterdam. Its parents are the sativa strain Haze, and White Widow, an indica dominant hybrid known for its trichome production. It is known for its psychoactive effects, and contains moderate THC levels. This one gram pre-rolled joint from pts (Progressive Treatment Solutions) contains 18.93% THC.

Appearance 4/5
This pre-rolled joint from pts looked larger than one gram. It was about the same length as the pre-rolls from Cresco, but the tip was significantly thicker. Although the dispensary label assured the weight was 1 gram of cannabis, this joint looked generous, and that was the best thing about this product.

However, when I unrolled the tip to photograph the contents, I noticed a gigantic stem that was ½” long.

It is wrapped in brown wrapping paper, and the filter has the “pts” logo printed on it. Unlike most pre-rolled joints in Chicago dispensaries, this wasn’t packaged in a fancy box or ceramic tube. It was packed in a black tube that opens when you pinch the top.

Aroma 4/5
Moby Dick has a floral and citrus aroma. The scent reminds me of orange blossoms and Spring. There are hints of lemon, and there are also some slightly sour, over-ripe notes at the back of the nose. The aroma reminds me of citrus popsicles.

The paper of this joint is pretty thick, and I couldn’t smell this joint unless it was right up to my nose. From unrolling the joint, I also noticed that the cannabis was pretty dry, and that probably contributed to the mild smell.

Taste 3/5
The Moby Dick pre-roll from pts was not the most flavorful joint I’ve ever smoked. The flavor was harsh, earthy, and spicy. The strain tastes like nutmeg, fresh ground pepper, and anise. It is woody and nutty. It tastes like the dark brown skin on shelled walnuts. This strain has a slightly cheesy and floral finish, too. The flavor is enjoyable, but it’s nothing remarkable.

One thing I appreciated about this product was that pts used thin, light-colored papers for their pre-rolled joints. I’ve found that the darker, waxier papers cover the flavor of the cannabis, while lighter, thinner papers tend to enhance it.

Effect 2/5
This strain made me feel disoriented and emotionally flat. The high was cold and heavy, making the name suiting. I rarely feel bad after smoking, but this strain made me feel down. At the same, it made me feel nervous and scatterbrained. When I researched this strain, there was a lot of talk about the psychoactive downsides to this strain.

If there was any upside to the effects of this strain, it is that I felt energized, but there are plenty of other energizing strains with far more pleasant effects.

Since Moby Dick is not a particularly uplifting strain, I recommend this strain to people who are already feeling uplifted.

The joint didn’t burn evenly or pull right, and neither did the joints I rolled from the contents. I recommend that people who plan on unrolling this joint, to try smoking the contents in a pipe or bong, especially since the cannabis is pretty coarsely ground.

This joint did not burn right. It did not burn evenly, and it did not pull right. Maybe it was packed too tight, or maybe there were many more stems like the one I found, but the two mini joints I made from the section I unwrapped to photograph didn’t burn right, either. Neither of them. So it makes me wonder if this flower was cured all the way.

I’ve become a regular customer of Sunnyside Lakeview, in spite of the frustration they have caused me in the past. I’m getting over it. Mostly because they gave me a free vape battery after forgetting to sell me one last time (in spite of selling me two Liquid Live Resin carts). I had no idea they were going to do that, and it renewed my enthusiasm for Sunnyside Dispensary.

It’s actually pretty great. My trips are getting shorter and shorter, and lately the online ordering platform has been smooth and easy to use. Last time, I placed my order right at noon, as usual. I got my text saying that my order was ready from the dispensary at 12:16, and got there 39 minutes later.

I did have to wait, but I left with my order about 25 minutes after I arrived. While I still can’t just swing by the dispensary, and walk right in to get basically whatever I want like I had imagined I would be able to 5 months into recreational legalization, things are improving.

One reason I keep going to Sunnyside, instead of the other dispensary on the north side, is because they have such a good selection. Both dispensaries have live menus online. While there are days where Sunnyside has no flower or pre-rolls, they have about twice the amount of options in carts, concentrates, and edibles. And on a good day at Sunnyside, they have up to 13 different options for flower.

Although a lot has changed about the way the dispensary has been run. The largest changes inside are the spots on the floor indicating what is six feet apart, and a truly gigantic sign warns about cross-contamination of allergens in facilities that make edibles. It’s still bright, cheery, and always clean.
