Island Sweet Skunk, also referred to colloquially as Sweet Skunk, is a flavorful sativa strain that is a descendant of Sweet Pink Grapefruit and Big Skunk. This 1 gram pre-roll has a moderate THC content of 17.83%.
Cresco Labs is a Chicago-based company that operates cultivation centers and vertically integrated dispensaries across many states. Their mission is to “normalize, professionalize, and revolutionize cannabis”.
Appearance 5/5
The Island Sweet Skunk pre-roll is about 3” long, including the 1 ¼” paper filter. It is rolled in thin, waxy, brown paper. Although Cresco’s pre-rolls vary a lot with how well rolled they are, this particular one was firm and compact.
This pre-roll had the most vibrant green shake I have ever seen. It was the color of fresh, young leaves on a tree. There were several noticeable thin stems, but they were short since this was ground so fine.
Aroma 4/5
This strain has quite a strange aroma. All of the parts of the title can be smelled distinctly. At first, I smell the sweet, fruity notes. There are tropical fruit and citrus notes, as well, particularly those of lime and pineapple. There is a sweetness that is closer to agave than sugar. The skunk notes of the aroma come through strongly at the end of an inhale.
The aroma is moderately strong, but it is not pungent. I could not smell anything through the plastic tube of the pre-roll packaging.
Taste 4/5
Upon first inhaling, the Island Sweet Skunk pre-roll tasted toasty, but gradually, a smooth sweetness rolled onto the back of my tongue. This strain was intriguing because of the contrast between the sweet notes and the crispy, autumnal taste. There were also mild notes of citrus, particularly lemon, and a trace of mint. My biggest critique of the taste is that it is not as flavorful as some other strains. However, I really enjoyed the sweetness.
Effect 4/5
After smoking the Island Sweet Skunk pre-roll, I felt excited and hyper-focused on what I was doing. Unlike many sativas that provide mental energy as the most prominent effect, I felt that Island Sweet Skunk gave a stronger physical energy. Before I finished the pre-roll, I felt invigorated. However, the strain also gave me a butterflies-in-the-stomach feeling, which wasn’t always positive.
I also felt that this strain worked as an appetite suppressant. Not only did I not have the munchies, but I felt unenthusiastic about food.
Product price: $19.80 for 1g
Island Sweet Skunk is a great daytime strain because it is a strong sativa with moderate THC levels. I recommend this pre-roll for those who like to smoke while being productive. It is good for a day out or a long walk. It is also a good strain for people who enjoy smoking in the morning.
This pre-roll was good–but then again, all of the 12 or so strains that Cresco Labs features in their line-up are good. Island Sweet Skunk is a good daytime strain, and it’s the optimal strength for daytime use. Is it my favorite sativa strain? No. But it’s a good sativa that is readily available from Cresco Labs.

I went to Sunnyside River North around lunchtime on a Friday. I placed my online order for three pre-rolls without a hitch, and arrived at the dispensary about an hour after I received a confirmation text. When I got to the waiting room on Hubbard Street, I got in line at the host stand. There were two customers in front of me.
The woman at the host stand was having trouble with the computer. The line was gradually piling up and wrapping around the former restaurant. There were about 15 people standing six feet apart in line before they started telling people at the door that they were having technical difficulties.
They said that the whole online system was down, and they did not know when it would be back up. About 30 minutes in, one Sunnyside employee started walking around with an iPad, taking down phone numbers and names to help clear out the waiting room. Another Sunnyside employee walked around with two bags of merch, one of empty pre-roll containers with the Sunnyside logo, the other with Liquid Live Resin lanyards.
As soon as the employee took down my phone number, I went outside to get some fresh air. The man in line behind me walked out with a receipt and told me the system was back up. I got a text instructing me to return to the host stand before I got back inside. But when I got to the host stand, a woman was arguing with the host about how he said the system was back up and it wasn’t. He told me he would put the name back in the queue, but I told him I would rather wait it out. I sat at a booth for another twenty minutes. Ten minutes in, tech support arrived, and the problem was fixed shortly after that.
When I got my ticket, I walked up to a totally empty counter where four budtenders were congregating. Why they could not manually retrieve these orders instead of doing nothing until the system was back up, I will never understand. But I was out in an hour, which was a pleasant surprise, since I was prepared to wait it out as long as it took.
