London Pound Cake is a strain developed by Cookies, a California cannabis company that focuses on rare strains and innovative genetics. This strain is a cross between Sunset Sherbert and Nep OG, according to the Cookies’ website, although it’s unclear what strain Nep OG is, exactly.

Cookies are working with Ascend Wellness, a Springfield-based cannabis cultivator, to bring their unique strains to Illinois.

Appearance 5/5
This pre-rolled joint is about 4” long, including a 1” filter. It is wrapped in thin, crispy, white paper that is tucked into the top of the joint, rather than twisted up at the tip. The filter is bright blue, and has the Cookie’s logo in white.

The cannabis inside was fresh and fluffy. The color varied from a bright minty green to a deep forest green, mixed with little brown hairs and specks of purple.

Aroma 4/5
London Pound Cake has an extremely strong lemony aroma that smells like cleaning products. The strong citrus notes cut through the rolling paper. I could smell this strain just from opening the container of the pre-roll.

My first impression of this strain was that it smelled like the original Lysol. It does smell like Lysol, but the smell is much more enjoyable and complex than that. The aroma is very clean and tart. It is crisp, but not harsh. It is slightly sweet, and a little bit soapy.

Taste 5/5
I think London Pound Cake is a very good name for the strain because it tastes sweet and cakey. This flavor is enjoyable and classic, with few complexities outside of the sweet, buttery vanilla flavor. It reminds me of a butter cookie, or a toasted marshmallow.

There are slight nutty notes, including hints of peanut and coconut. In spite of this strain being so dessert-forward, London Pound Cake is not overpoweringly sweet. It is well balanced and very pleasant to smoke.

Effect 4/5
The effects of this strain drifted in slowly. It started as a slight buzz and a tingle in the arms, then I felt a wave of serenity wash over me. I found this strain to be very calming. It made me feel physically soft in the areas of my body where I typically carry tension.

The effects of this strain are overall quite pleasant, but it isn’t very potent compared to much of the cannabis these days. At 21%, this strain’s effects don’t compare with some stronger Indica-dominant hybrids.

I recommend London Pound Cake to help with stress and pain, as its effects are serenity and physical relaxation.

For people who like to unroll their pre-rolls and use the cannabis elsewhere, this strain is a good choice because the ground cannabis is more coarse, without too many powdery trichomes -- although the pre-roll burns well, so this is not necessary.

London Pound Cake is a relaxing strain for everyday use. While it was not my favorite of the Cookies pre-rolls that I tried, this pre-roll contains fresh, high-quality cannabis that tastes incredible.

I feel that London Pound Cake improved upon its parent, Sunset Sherbert, by adding another layer of sweetness and relaxation.

Sunnyside has been working very hard to adjust to the newly opened industry of recreational cannabis in Illinois, while keeping their customers safe. To accommodate medical patients and recreational customers over 55, who are at heightened health risks, they have opened up a consultation space across Clark Street. This is the same building that they used to house the long adult-use lines a few months ago. This former pizza restaurant has been painted the same bright yellow-orange as the original Sunnyside location, or as they are now calling it, the fulfillment center

The consultation space, located at 3801 N. Clark Street, is open from 10am to 9pm, for qualifying customers to place orders and receive 1:1 consultations. As with online orders, customers who place orders in this building will receive a text or email when their order is ready to be picked up at the fulfillment center.

As soon as it is safe to do so, the consultation space will be open to all customers. But for now, all recreational customers who are not over 55, and with preexisting health conditions, are still required to place orders online. They have also expanded the hours for recreational customers to be the same as the hours for medical patients, although medical patients, of course, are given priority when it comes to picking up orders in the fulfillment center.

They have been opening the online ordering windows throughout the day. They have been allowing online ordering at 9am, and every hour on the hour, when they can handle the capacity.
