During this trip, I picked up Spring Lake Craft Infusions Surp. This is a pineapple, guava, and orange flavored syrup that’s intended to be mixed into a liquid of your choosing. It’s produced by Revolution, and comes in a 1.69 oz. glass bottle. The bottle contains a total of 100 mg THC and 49.49 mg CBD.
Appearance 4/5
The product looked great to me. The dark brown bottle it comes in evokes an old-school tincture you may have gotten from a pharmacy back in the day. The label, however, has a definite millennial aesthetic, with an attractive logo and modern fonts throughout. It definitely caught my eye when browsing online, and would stand out on a store shelf, too.
I was a bit surprised to find that the syrup was clear — I was expecting some color, given the intensity of the tropical fruit flavor. I suppose this is all good though, because the bottle lists no artificial food colorings, which is a major plus. There’s just sugar, water, citric acid, natural flavors, “supercritical CO2 extract,” and MCT oil, derived from tree nuts.
Aroma 4/5
Surp smells great! Immediately after opening the lid, I caught a whiff of a pleasantly sweet and fruity scent. I took a deeper sniff, and fell even more into its aromatic profile. I could smell the pineapple, as well as other fruits — though in a blind sniff-test, I doubt I’d be able to pick up that there were orange and guava notes, as well. There was also a tinge of a weed smell, but it only added some pleasant earthiness to the overall profile, which was nice.
Taste 4/5
I love when things taste the way the smell, especially when they smell great. Surp did not disappoint here. I tried Surp a number of different ways — mixed in with unflavored sparkling mineral water, still tap water, a lime flavored sparkling water, and, of course, on its own, as I licked the excess syrup off the spoon.
I found that, in general, Surp mixed best when added to a sparkling beverage. Maybe the bubbles helped carry the syrup? It’s hard to tell. Also, the lime sparkling water was best, in my opinion, as the lime blended with the other fruits, and really made it feel like a cocktail.
When I mixed it in tap water, the flavors just didn’t incorporate the same way, and it seemed like everything was at the bottom of the glass. When I licked it straight off the spoon, it also tasted great! Is this the most elegant way to consume? Of course not. Does that matter? Well, that depends. Is anyone around to judge you for doing so? If not, go for it!
Effect 3/5
I had never tried an infused THC drink before Surp, so as I poured the sparkling water into the glass with Surp, and stirred, I didn’t know what results would be. Unfortunately, I have to report that my experience was not consistent through four different trials.
I took a consistent dose of 2 teaspoons, which according to the label, should yield 20mg cannabinoids with each experience. However, each time yielded different results, ranging from a mild calm feeling — similar to pure CBD — to a moderate high that came on quickly. I would say on average, a 2 tsp. dose brings on a mild, fairly clear-headed high.
I’d say Surp is best suited for those looking for a novel way to get their dose. It’s an entirely different experience than eating an edible, or smoking, and it can be fun to pair Surp with different drinks. I wouldn’t recommend this to heavy users, or medical patients, seeking relief. It’s better-suited for just chilling at home, or maybe for serving a few Surp-infused drinks at a party.
I have to give props to Revolution for the taste, smell, look, and overall uniqueness of Surp. It really is a well-flavored and smart product. I just wish it could produce consistent results, though. I will say that if LaCroix ever makes an orange-pineapple-guava flavored drink, I will definitely try it!

I purchased this product at Nature’s Care, a dispensary in Rolling Meadows, during the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic, and the start of self-quarantine, shelter-in-place orders. Nature’s Care was deemed an essential business by the governor, so they have remained open during this time.
Just like with toilet paper, people seemed desperate to stock up on herb, and there was a line around the store for recreational customers. Medical patients, like me, formed a shorter line just outside the door. Security was doing an admirable job of keeping folks socially distant, and repeatedly told guests it was required by the state that they stay 6 feet apart. Many guests were taking it upon themselves to keep six feet of distance between each other, which was also nice to see.
Once inside, I found a sparse sales floor, as the staff worked to keep it from getting too crowded. This is why the recreational line was moving so slowly. The sales staff all wore gloves when handling money or products, and I saw an employee going around and spraying surfaces with a cleaning solution, which also helped to make me feel safe.
My experience during this trip to Nature’s Care showed me that the team there takes the responsibility of being an essential business seriously. They are taking several measures to protect both their customers and their staff, and are working hard to provide medicinal products, and recreational ones, to people who need aid during this difficult time.
